The Cruel Reality Facing Galgos: A Problem That Extends Beyond Spain.

For many people, the word Galgo immediately brings Spain to mind. Over the years, countless reports, documentaries, and rescue organizations have highlighted the suffering endured by Spanish hunting dogs. While this attention is important, it can sometimes create the impression that the problem exists only within Spain's borders.

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

At EGPAC, we believe that raising awareness means being honest about the reality these dogs face, even when that reality is difficult to look at. Animal cruelty does not stop at national borders, and neither should our concern for the welfare of Galgos.

A Disturbing Example from Argentina

The photographs accompanying this article were taken in Argentina in 2021. They show two Galgos hanging from a tree, victims of unimaginable cruelty.

These images are deeply upsetting, and we understand that many people may find them difficult to view. However, they serve as a stark reminder that the abuse and mistreatment of hunting dogs is not limited to Spain. Similar practices can be found in other countries where dogs are treated as tools rather than living beings deserving of care, respect, and protection.

Why Galgos Are at Risk

Galgos are widely used for hunting and coursing activities in several countries. While many hunters care for their dogs responsibly, there are also situations where dogs are neglected, abandoned, injured, or killed when they are no longer considered useful.

The issue is not about nationality or culture. It is about animal welfare.

Whenever animals are viewed as disposable, there is a risk of abuse. This is why the fight for Galgo welfare must be approached as an international issue rather than a problem belonging to a single country.

The Importance of Awareness

Some people ask why organizations share disturbing stories and images. The answer is simple: because the reality exists whether we choose to look at it or not.

Awareness is often the first step toward change. Without public attention, many cases of cruelty remain hidden. By educating people about what is happening, we can encourage stronger animal welfare protections, support rescue efforts, and inspire more people to speak out against abuse.

Awareness does not mean spreading hate or attacking entire communities. It means acknowledging the facts, promoting compassion, and working toward solutions that protect animals.

A Global Responsibility

The suffering of Galgos is not a Spanish problem, an Argentine problem, or a problem belonging to any single country. It is a global animal welfare issue.

As long as Galgos continue to be abused, abandoned, or killed simply because they are no longer wanted, there is still work to be done.

At EGPAC, we will continue to raise awareness, support rescue efforts, and advocate for better protection of these incredible dogs. Every Galgo deserves a life free from fear, cruelty, and suffering.

Together, we can help ensure that their voices are heard.

❤️ For every Galgo without a voice, we will continue to speak out.
